At Numeracy Consultants, we’re committed to transforming math intervention by equipping educators with effective, evidence-informed strategies that lead to real student growth. Founded in 2010 by Dane Ziemba, the company is grounded in the belief that intervention should be meaningful, practical, and accessible, especially for students who struggle the most.
With over 23 years of experience as a classroom teacher, intervention specialist, special education teacher, and consultant, Dane brings both practical insight and academic expertise to every program we create, ensuring our approach is research-based, classroom-tested, and results-driven.
Educational Background: Dane holds a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Master of Arts in Special Education (Learning Disabilities) from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. His master’s project, centered on the effectiveness of math interventions and student growth, was a pivotal moment that brought everything into focus. It not only shaped his professional path but laid the groundwork for the research-driven philosophy that defines our work today. This formative experience, combined with a strong academic foundation, continues to anchor our commitment to evidence-based, impactful intervention.
Driving Force: Numeracy Consultants emerged from Dane’s frustration with the ineffective math intervention programs of the early 2000s. Most available options were shallow “tutoring” models that lacked both diagnostic precision and instructional depth. Dane envisioned a better solution: a systematic, data-driven approach that not only identified learning gaps but uncovered their root causes. More than just assessments, the goal was to equip educators with practical, research-based strategies they could immediately apply, turning data into action and instruction.
In 2020, Mary Bullard joined Numeracy Consultants as the leader of Online Learning and Professional Development. A dedicated educator with more than 30 years of experience, she brought with her a deep well of knowledge, practical insight, and an unwavering commitment to empowering teachers. A proud graduate of Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and Teaching, Mary has held a wide range of roles throughout her career, each one further refining her ability to support both students and fellow educators.
Mary came to us from the Lone Star State, where she had experienced the power of our programs firsthand while working in the Southlake Carroll School District in Texas. After seeing the significant impact the interventions had on her own students, she felt called to share that success with others. That passion led her to take on a new role, not just as a user of the program, but as someone who would lead and train others in its effective implementation.
Since joining our team, Mary has gone on to train thousands of educators through our virtual professional development offerings, helping schools across the country elevate instruction and improve student outcomes. Her creativity, insight, and determination have been critical in shaping and enhancing our online training system. Thanks to her leadership, what began as a vision has grown into a dynamic, effective, and accessible learning experience for teachers nationwide.
Driven by a clear vision to transform math intervention, Numeracy Consultants began with a rigorous, hands-on approach, diving deep into research, analyzing classroom realities, and building tools from the ground up. The seeds of the Primary Numeracy Intervention Program were planted in 2010 with a basic numeracy assessment focused on counting strategies and a single accompanying workbook. That modest beginning led to our very first training, where just 13 people signed up. A few years later, we were regularly selling out trainings with more than 120 participants and waiting lists, clear proof that the need was real and the approach was resonating.
What started as one simple assessment evolved, year by year, into a suite of comprehensive intervention programs designed to uncover learning gaps and deliver targeted, effective support.
This journey was anything but easy. Countless evenings and weekends were devoted to refining assessments, writing lessons, and piloting materials with real students. Every resource was tested, revised, and improved to ensure it met the needs of both teachers and learners.
This success reflects a core belief: when educational solutions are grounded in research, shaped by classroom experience, and guided by purpose, they don’t just sell—they spread. And more importantly, they make a lasting difference in student outcomes.
At Numeracy Consultants, our mission goes beyond developing high-impact intervention programs, we’re equally committed to equipping educators with the tools, strategies, and confidence they need to transform math instruction. Since 2010, we have trained thousands of educators through a combination of in-person and virtual professional development sessions designed to be practical, research-based, and immediately actionable.
Our online training offerings reflect the accessibility and effectiveness of our approach. From free webinars, with over 10,000 views, to full-scale district training, educators consistently turn to our programs for meaningful, results-driven learning. Thousands of teachers have participated in our paid professional development sessions, using our training to strengthen core instruction and drive student growth.
Today, our programs are being implemented in hundreds of schools across the country, helping educators close foundational gaps and elevate the quality of math teaching for all learners.
