Numeracy Consultants instructional approach is straight forward and direct, student assessment data ignites the process and the CRA instructional model fuels the learning. We offer a comprehensive instructional approach that is meticulously designed to enhance numeracy skills across diverse age groups and skill levels. This multifaceted approach is underpinned by explicit, direct, sequential, systematic, and scaffolded instruction for effective math teaching.
The first component is the data collection process, facilitated through the administration of the Primary Numeracy Assessment. This standards based assessment serves as the foundational step, enabling teachers to gain invaluable insights into the numeracy skills of individual students. We viewed current research then reviewed existing standards and identified the essential standards that serve as the basis for numerical development. Then, we created a comprehensive assessment based on the standards. This leveled data-driven approach sets the stage for personalized instruction.
Instruction Fueled by the CRA Instructional Model
The second part of the approach involves the use of the assessment data for the selection of leveled lessons and materials for instruction. During this phase, the Concrete-Representational-Abstract (CRA) instructional model is implemented—a well-established pedagogical framework that emphasizes conceptual comprehension and skill mastery. By blending the leveled student data with research-backed strategies and explicit instruction, we create a dynamic and tailored learning experience that nurtures mathematical competence and instills confidence in students.
